As a continuation to using ideas in a logical consequence, I asked students to write in what ways aggressive drivers put other drivers in danger.

They brainstormed the topic and wrote about three ways aggressive drivers are the ones we do not want behind the wheels!

Aggressive Drivers

What are aggressive drivers?

– tailgating (failure to leave a safe distance between cars)

– speeding and waving through traffic

– use of high beam headlights; flashing headlights

– frequent and unsafe lane changes

– failure to yield the right of way

– disregarding traffic signs

– cellphone or electronic device use while driving

– using emergency lane to pass

– passing on shoulder

– failure to use turn signals

– failure to stop for school bus; ambulance

For this practice, I have students part of the paragraph done. The paragraph has an introduction shared for all students, and the body paragraph and conclusion were written by them.

Sample 1

Aggressive Drivers

The number of vehicles on freeways and streets is increasing at an alarming rate. This influx of motor vehicles is creating hazardous conditions. Moreover, drivers are in such a rush to get to their destinations that many become angry or impatient with other motorists who are too slow or who are in their way. Aggressive drivers react foolishly toward others in several dangerous ways. The first way that an angry driver may react is to honk constantly like a psychotic to the car right before.  Therefore, this conduct can create confusion and generate difficulty to concentrate in other drivers. Another dangerous way to behave is to tailgate the other car.  When a car is too close to another, it is perilous and limitate driver’s ability to move. In addition to blare out and be on someone’s tail, aggressive drivers often speed and wave through traffic.  This kind of behavior may engender car accidents. Exceeding the posted speed limit is one of the most predictable accident factors. These dangerous ways presented above show that aggressive drivers are threatening everyone because they do not leave enough distance between cars, make loud noise using the car’s horn, surpass the speed limit and move to and fro.

 Sample 2

Danger behind the wheel !

The first situation, which an angry driver may react is when a vehicle weaves through the traffic. Sometimes people who are driving forward you jump to lanes without considering what direction they are taking. This maneuver can block the passing way of a driver in a rush and can originate an angry attitude between drivers. Another scenario that provokes the fury of a driver is to tailgate the other car. Some people on the road use to drive too close from others and get the driver hot under the collar. Not leaving an adequate safe cushion between your car and another vehicle is a sure way to end up in a collision, that will lead a road range.  In addition to shifting lane continuously and tailgating, aggressive drivers often make obscene or offensive gestures that irritate others. When you are on the wheel you may see drivers making gestures that are absolutely rude or vulgar. Even harmless gesticulation such as shaking the head or clap hands are able to trigger the ire of drivers. To conclude, aggressive drivers are endangering everyone because they rapidly switch lanes without signaling, they push the plate of another car and make indecent hand gestures.

Sample 3

Aggressive Drivers

The number of vehicles on freeways and streets is increasing at an alarming rate. This influx of motor vehicles is creating hazardous conditions. Moreover, drivers are in such a rush to get to their destinations that many become angry or impatient with other motorists who are too slow or who are in their way. Aggressive drivers think about themselves and react foolishly toward others in several dangerous ways. First of all, an aggressive driver honk for no reason or just to show they are angry. Sometimes, I don’t know why they honk. Did I do something wrong?  Another dangerous way to behave is the bright light. I do not like to drive at night, I can not see the road well because of the bright light. It puts me in danger.I could have or cause an accident because of aggressive drivers. In addition, shift lane will confuse other drivers. Some drivers do not give other cars a clear signal. I do not see they want to turn right or left but they suddenly slow the speed and turn. To conclude, aggressive drivers are selfish by having  dangerous behavior that leads me and other drivers to feel confused and even provoke accidents. We should respect each other and abide by the traffic rules.

Sample 4

Watch out !! – Aggressive drivers

First, angry drivers are used to drive too fast under any road or weather condition. They are not aware of their attitude and their imprudence in doing this, because they are the most important factors when driving a car. It is not the same to drive on a rainy day than on a sunny day, and in the same way driving in the summer is not the same as in the winter. But they simply do it for their ego or for demonstrating that they are “good drivers”. A second is to tailgate the other car. This is very dangerous because you never know what the other person is trying to do. Therefore, this attitude will deconcentrate the driver in the front, causing irritation, starting a potential reason for racing. Finally, an aggressive drivers will increase the danger of accident and death on the road when they drive impaired by alcohol or drugs. An estimated 32% of fatal car crashes involve an intoxicated driver. If they are already aggressive drivers, can you imagine what would happen when they are under the influence of a drug or alcohol?. Alcohol, drugs and driving simply do not go together. Driving requires people with the ability to make quick decisions on the road, taking into consideration they are not under the influence of substances. To conclude, aggressive drivers are endangering everyone including their own lives. If you are already an aggressive driver try to control your impulses, and if you are not one of them, try to avoid them and take care of your life, because you only have one.

For example, in this condition the front driver can not see clearly the road and other cars and drivers will be in danger. The best advice for inhabitation of any accident and saving life is obedience of traffic signs.
